Although there are more than forty parks in Madrid, Retiro Park (Parque del Buen Retiro) is one of the most famous. It occupies 1.4 square meters and it’s a great place to relax for people in every age. It’s surrounded by museums (Prado, Thyssen-Bornemisza, Reina Sofia) and fancy neighbourhoods (Los Jeronimos).
There are lots of avenues (with names!), sculptures, fountains and monuments in the park. You can rent a boat close to the biggest pond in the park. It’s not hard to notice the great Alfonso XII monument with semi-circular colonnade located next to it. If you’re visiting the park, you should pass by (or go into, much advised!) the Crystal Palac (Palacio de Cristal) and the Velázquez Palace (Palacio de Velázquez). In those buildings you can find the exhibitions of contemporary art.
